The online gaming industry in South East Asia is soon to witness a huge transformation in terms of payment facilities to its millions of worldwide users. In a unique move to achieve the same, Razer, the world leader in e-gaming and Visa, the global name in banking, have entered into a partnership.
Under the alliance, Razer would incorporate the online prepaid solution of Visa into its own Razer Pay e-wallet. This would facilitate the latter’s 60 million users to make payments anywhere across the 54 million merchant locations currently served by Visa on its worldwide customer network. The partnership is also intended to help serve those sections of the Southeast Asian population which do not have banking facilities.
The two companies made it clear that Razer Fintech, the company’s financial technology enterprise, will be joining hands with Visa’s fintech counterpart, thereby enabling the former’s fintech users to gain easy access to Visa’s global payment network.
Making the announcement on Monday, Chris Clark, Regional President Asia Pacific for Visa said, “This announcement reaffirms Visa’s commitment to the fast-growing and digitally savvy Southeast Asia region. Together, Visa and Razer Fintech have the opportunity to transform the payments experience for not only the gaming community but many of Southeast Asia’s unbanked and underserved consumers as well.”
Affirming the same sentiment, Min-Liang Tan, Razer’s Co-founder and CEO stated, “Razer Fintech is a core growth initiative for Razer as we continue to empower digital payments across emerging markets, starting from Southeast Asia. This partnership with Visa significantly extends Razer Fintech’s position as the largest offline-to-online digital payment network in the region.”
Furthermore, both the companies, under this association, expect to launch an exclusive Visa prepaid payment solution for Razer Pay under the latter’s brand name. They intend to do this through a mini-app for Razer Pay users, which is likely to fortify the company’s position in the Southeast Asian market as the leader in e-wallet platforms.
